Yesterday at 10:00 a.m. the second round to choose a MIR place throughout Spainand Galicia has managed to seduce, so far, 37 of the 800 best doctors of the last batch (6 of them in the first 79 positions of the more than 10,000 residents). The new doctors have selected their health centers to learn their specialty throughout the Galician geography, filling positions in six of the seven capitals. Thus, the province of Pontevedra will have the talent of 10 young doctors: 3 in Pontevedra (Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Pontevedra-CHOP, in Family Medicine and Mental Health), and 7 in Vigo (6 Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Vigo-CHUVI and 1 in Family Medicine). There are 10 residents who chose Santiago (9 Hospital Clínico Universitario de Santiago-CHUS and 1 also in Family Medicine). Another 15 will work providing services to the people of Coruña: 14 at the University Hospital of A Coruña-CHUA and another in Family Care. Ourense and Ferrol add two more doctors in their respective hospitals (CH de Ourense and Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Ferrol). It should be noted that the CH Universitario A Coruña was part of the dozen of best-regarded hospitals throughout the country by the residents who chose first.
Cardiology consolidates itself as a leader among selected specialties in Galician hospitals (6 new residents distributed between Vigo, Santiago and A Coruña). Another of the classics, Dermatology, will have 4 new doctors (Pontevedra, Santiago, A Coruña and Ferrol). One of the most complicated specialties also stands out: Anesthesiology and Resuscitation (selected by 4 other residents in Vigo, Santiago and two in A Coruña). The last among those preferred by the best has been Internal Medicine, which not only has four other new specialists (Vigo, Santiago and two others in A Coruña), but among them is the Galician MIR with the best grade in the selective test of this year.

The rest of the specialties chosen in Galicia are very varied and reflect the trust of these professionals in the Galician health system, and in the doctors who will guide them. These are: Medical Oncology, Radiodiagnosis, Pediatrics, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, Digestive System, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology, Psychiatry and Nephrology. A medical team necessary for the community, taking into account the shortage of health personnel that have become evident in recent years.
In this line, it should be noted that Galicia is the autonomous community that has awarded the most places. And this year, there have been 9 more than in previous calls. With this, Sergas aims to respond to the needs of the Galician population, a purely administrative issue until the election of these new MIR. His decision will help consolidate a slightly firmer health system (although not sufficient) supported both by the preparation demonstrated in their test by these new doctors, and by the variety of new specializations that Galician hospitals will be able to count on. Today the third round of allocating places will continue up to the number of 1,200 applicants.
Diego Rodríguez Fiuza, number 13 of the MIR of Spain

I want to accompany the patient when he knows that I can no longer save his life,” explains this leader of his professional generation. Being able to be whatever he wants wherever he wants, he has chosen to specialize in Internal Medicine at the University Clinical Hospital of Santiago. Trusting a hospital center that knows its practices, as well as its professionals, instead of the usual ones: 12 de Octubre (Madrid), Vall D’Hebron (Barcelona) or La Fe (Valencia).
