New Discovery: Stunning Image of Star SN1987A on Its Way to Supernova Captured by James Webb Space Telescope

RAY OF HOPE – The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) released this incredible photo on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

This telescope displays the star SN1987A on its way to supernova.

This event occurred in 1987, and it is the closest and brightest exploding star that can be seen from Earth.

In this image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope, the star heading for a supernova looks like a pearl necklace surrounded by emitted gas and dust.

Two previously undetected pearls by the European Hubble Space Telescope are also visible in this stunning image.

The new discovery, which is about 170,000 light years from Earth, provides astronomers with new insights into the life cycle of stars and their patterns of death.

This supernova, which is located in the sky of the southern hemisphere, is the most widely observed space object.

In the image, you can see a series of glowing rings representing the gas and dust pushed out by SN1987A in various stages of its death from its inception to its supernova.

One of the rings turned out to be a string of pearls, composed of material ejected some 20,000 years before the supernova event.

This success was made possible thanks to the ability of the James Webb Space Telescope to provide detailed images of the necklace and the distribution of light around the star.

“We can see new hotspots appearing outside of previously illuminated rings,” said Dr. Roger Wesson from Cardiff University, England, in an interview with BBC News.

“In addition, we saw emission from molecular hydrogen in the rings that was not anticipated and something that only JWST can reveal with its superior sensitivity and resolution,” he added.
