It will no longer be necessary for Grenadians to travel to neighboring provinces to catch a flight to the capital of the United Kingdom. After the suspension of flights last autumn, the Federico García Lorca airport in Granada will have two weekly connections with London starting this summer, as announced by the president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez.
The airline was in charge of connecting the province with London directly since spring 2022, however, in September of last year it announced that it was stopping providing this service for internal reasons of line restructuring. A connection that is recovered again thanks to the “effort” and “work” during the negotiations held, something that the president of the Provincial Council has described as “excellent” news for the province thanks to the work that “has been developed to ensure that Granada is a competitive destination,” according to the Provincial Council.
With the London connection they are two already launched by the new provincial government since it took office, after an agreement with Iberia allowed the addition of a new flight with Madrid. The provincial government says they are not satisfied yet and that they will continue working “with lights and stenographers” to increase the number of air connections at the Granada terminal, since the final objective is to position the airport in the best possible way, an objective to which which already helped the last European Summit that the capital hosted, which served as “a great showcase” to show the city, and the province, to the world.
In parallel, the president of the Provincial Council has announced that the Provincial Tourism Board will carry out several complementary actions, such as an advertising campaign on the screens in the central Callao square and sectoral meetings to reinforce and generate new synergies that favor the promotion of top-level quality tourism; as well as meetings with directors of Spanish Tourism Offices abroad, fifty meetings with tour operators invited by Fitur and meetings with airlines with the aim of establishing new connections with the Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén Airport.
