Breakthrough in the investigation into the origin of the video in which judge Iolanda Apostolico appears on the evening of 25 August 2018 in a pro-migrant protest at the port of Catania. The person who shot those images which caused a new political clash between the government and the opposition, as between the League and the ANM, was a carabiniere who immediately informed his superiors about him. And the force communicated the fact to the prosecutors of the Catania prosecutor’s office. The news arrives together with that of the presence of a second video of that demonstration in the square of gate 4 not far from the military ship Diciotti: there are in fact other images from the LaPresse agency which show the judge taking part in the protest and taking part in a discussion with the policemen present, accused by pro-migrants of having used strong force against them.
A few days ago the first video had instead been posted on a personal chat of the Carabiniere, made up of people he knew, and in any case it would never have been attached to any investigation file, or internal document of the police forces, nor even in information from the judicial authority, as it was filmed “without any purpose”. If the Army soldier’s version is confirmed, it will be necessary to understand whether the policeman was on duty that evening at the port and in what capacity he shot the images with his mobile phone. Frame which he would then keep for five years to make public in his chat a few days ago, after the judge became famous for having rejected the Cutro decree by rejecting the request for detention of three Tunisian migrants in the new identification center in Pozzallo (Ragusa) , ordering their release.
In practice, the carabiniere, still on duty, would have realized that the video shot by him was precisely the same one disclosed on farewell, Anastasio Carrà, had recognized the Apostolic Judge in the images. At this point it will be fundamental for the Etna prosecutors, after the Rome Prosecutor’s Office has received the complaint from the Green and Left Alliance and is considering opening an investigation, to understand what role the Army soldier played on that occasion given that any video document produced in the service of public order should have been in the records of that day in any case. And that wouldn’t have been the case. The police themselves reported to the magistrates the existence of that video and who shot it. It now remains to be ascertained who is part of the list of acquaintances on the policeman’s chat by whom it was then disclosed and in what ways.
