WhatsApp is testing the ability to edit messages, which may soon be available to users. While it’s not known when this will happen, we have some new information on when you can edit a message and more. Find out the details below.
WhatsApp functionality to edit incoming messages
A last report through WABetaInfo reveals some more details about the Edit Message feature. This will be revealed WhatsApp gives users a 15-minute window to edit a message.
However, it is said that Meta’s messaging platform may not be able to process a message if the recipient is not online during the processing window. The report reads: “WhatsApp may not guarantee that your message will actually be processed if the recipient does not turn on their device within a certain amount of time (probably a day or so).“
WhatsApp Beta update also for Android 2.22.22.14 displays the Modified label next to a message, indicating that it has been modified. This is similar to how the edited tweet will look once the changes are made. You can check the screenshot below to see how it looks.
The ability to edit WhatsApp messages helps users check for typos and incorrect information sent by mistake. This is in addition to the option to delete a message for all, which also aims to help users correct a wrong message.
However, the feature is still in the works and we don’t know when it will launch. Also, it is unknown if there will be message history, how it will work with multi-device functionality, and more. Since we regularly see new information about it, we can expect an official introduction soon.
