Good morning,
Everything that is important, put together by me for you. Have a good start to the day!
New vote-out request against Mayor Mike Schubert
That’s what it’s about: Potsdam‘s mayor Mike Schubert (SPD) is facing a vote-out request – again. The first such attempt was made in May.
This is what lies behind it: The core of the allegations concerns the so-called VIP ticket affair. Schubert is said to have been a VIP guest at sporting events many times for free and without having any official duties, often together with his wife. It was recently announced that the cards were worth more than 13,000 euros.
This is what is happening now: If the majority of city councilors support the application, a special meeting will be held. A referendum can be passed here with a two-thirds majority.
VIP tickets to order: FAQ on the findings of the public prosecutor’s office
That’s what it’s about: How did Potsdam’s mayor get his free tickets? Did he at least perform representative tasks at the games? The investigation details that have now become known provide initial answers to such questions.
That’s why this is important: It’s about the accusation of taking advantage in office. The tickets were worth around 13,000 euros. Schubert is not only threatened with losing his office by being voted out of office, but also with legal proceedings.
This is the current status: Now that the extent of the VIP ticket affair has become known, the MAZ has compiled what the investigators have found out about five central questions.
Long Covid patient Gina: “It’s not all good again, but it’s a little better”
That’s what it’s about: Gina Konarski (23) has Long Covid and was also diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome ME/CFS. The fun-loving Potsdam resident was in need of nursing care after her second coronavirus infection in June 2022.
That’s why this is important: In Germany it is estimated that more than a million people are affected. They encounter a huge supply deficit because targeted treatment is not yet possible. The MAZ accompanies Gina. For the first time she says: “I’m feeling better.”
This is how it continues now: Gina hopes to be able to return to her old life over the next year. But there are still many challenges ahead of her.
Historical picture: The girl from Michendorfer Herthasee turns 110 years old
What happened: In 1927, children from a school class in Michendorf climbed into Lake Hertha and stood waist-deep in the water for a group photo. The picture is now historical.
That’s what it’s about: Gertrud Oertel can also be seen in the photo. She is the little girl, then twelve years old, at the edge of the picture, second from the right, who tilts her head slightly and smiles. She will be 110 years old on November 11th.
One year younger than the oldest German: Gertrud Oertel, who now lives in Berlin, is one of the oldest people on the planet. She is only a year younger than the currently oldest German. “My aunt is still breaking the record,” says her nephew.
Increasing the second home tax in Schwielowsee has drastic consequences for families
This is the topic: This year, the municipality of Schwielowsee increased the second home tax from three to 15 percent of the annual net rent.
This is the conflict: This has dramatic effects for Silvia Schmiedel (67) from Jena and her sister. They have to pay 570 percent more taxes for their small inherited bungalow and the property.
Hence the increase: The local administration points out that it has adapted to the neighboring communities with the increase. For many years, at three percent, significantly less second home tax was levied than, for example, Potsdam with 20 percent.
