During this day, students and parents of the Concepción school held a new demonstration for better infrastructure conditions.
The request comes from the student union of the institution where they made complaints regarding improving the state of the bathrooms, expanding the spaces for lunch, the need for an adequate heating system and the maintenance of the building, in general.
“On April 26, as a school, we made the decision to go on strike, it was complex because we knew the risks that this entails because we had been without classes for almost three weeks. (…) We are many mobilized students. The School does not exceed 200 students per day of attendance and we know that the corporation is not liking this,” said Constanza Fernández, president of the Student Center, to Radio La Discusión.
The Colegio Concepción Ñuble Educational Corporation reported that the establishment “continues in normal operation, ensuring that the establishment is in appropriate conditions and in accordance with the educational regulations that authorize its operation.
Regarding the mobilization of students, the school pointed out that “the channels of conversation have always been kept open and at each conversation table, both with the CGP and with the CEACC, agreements have been reached that have allowed us to make progress in their petitions, such as: installation of air conditioning in the nursery area, changes in lighting throughout the school, analysis and verification of drinking water in all school services, gradual changes in windows and thermopanel and aluminum doors, among other arrangements. which continue to be carried out”.
Finally, they asked the students to resume normal academic activities in the classroom and continue creating spaces for communication in the community.
In response to the statement, the student leader questioned what was reported by the campus. “They make information known that was not correct, the students and parents were bothered by her. We are not here to continue receiving lies and patch solutions. (…) The only thing they have told us is that the school has no resources and that arrangements are not possible because there is no money, ”she criticized.
The young woman assured that they will remain mobilized until they receive adequate answers. “General arrangements, we feel forgotten as students. The College has not been maintained for a long time. Within our petition we have the court, the gym and the dining room. We are 2,800 students, but it is a dining room for 200 and we decided to prioritize the request, and now the main thing we are asking for is heating and a ventilation system, ”she explained.
For her part, the president of the Parents’ Center, Salomé Alderete, stated that an agreement with the school has not been reached.
“We have loose windows, holes in the gym, problems with drinking water, paper supply problems, study guides, so they are contradicting each other on several points. The teachers, since they do not have paper, ask the children to use their phones to access the guides that are online. We have not reached any agreement, we have held two meetings with them, in which they have refused each time, because they say that there are no resources. We had requested that they show the air conditioning projects, due to the excessive cold and heat in summer, and they agreed to show them yesterday, but they unilaterally suspended the meeting”.
