The Archbishop of Oviedo, Mons.Jesús Sanz, has appointed the new Director of Cáritas Diocesana de Oviedo to Mrs. Mª Elsa Suarez Álvarez-Cascoswhile D. Joseph Mary Hevia Alvarez he will be the new Episcopal Delegate.
They replace Mrs Aurora García García and Mr Jesús Rodríguez de la Vega respectively.
a Mrs. Mª Elsa Suarez Álvarez-Cascos. (Luarca, 1958) It is a neighbor of Oviedo and Luarca. She is married and is the mother of a daughter. She began her volunteer work in 2013 at Cáritas as part of the work program, becoming Coordinator of Cáritas Arciprestal de Oviedo in 2021, a responsibility she has held until now. Among the volunteer tasks that you have developed is that of welcoming and accompanying people who come to Cáritas in the active search for a job and in the animation and coordination of the action of Cáritas in the archpriest of Oviedo. As foreseen by the statute of Caritas, the managerial function is voluntary.
She graduated in Chemical Sciences from the University of Oviedo, after earning a Masters in Clinical Analysis and another in Environmental Management. She in addition to training in Project Management, Management and Quality Control and Management Skills. She is currently in early retirement after having dedicated herself to teaching and working as a chemist and head of the technical and quality department at Empresa Crady Eléctrica (Gijón) and head of laboratories, quality and projects at Grupo Temper (Gijón). She was also President of the Association of Chemists of the Principality of Asturias and Vice Dean of the College of Chemists of Asturias.
He is currently Secretary of the Assembly of the National Association of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of Spain.
a D. Joseph Mary Hevia Alvarez (Villayana-Lena 1947). He was ordained a priest in April 1972. He has a degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oviedo and in Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
From 1972 to 1983 he was curated in the parish of Ciaño, El Buen Pastor de Gijón and archpriest of Gijón Sur. From 1983 to 1986 he was Vice Chancellor of the Colegio Mayor Hispanoamericano in Salamanca. And from 1987 to 1991 he was rector of the Metropolitan Seminary of Oviedo. He was an ex officio member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council and the College of Consultants and Professor at the Superior Center for Theological Studies of Oviedo. He was also a professor at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences “San Melchor” in Oviedo from 1994 to 1999. From then until 2004 he was assigned to the parish of San Lázaro in Oviedo and parish administrator of Olloniego, Manzaneda, Naves and Tudela de Aguria.
Currently retired, he continues to cultivate his vocation as an astronomer and serves as a volunteer in the community of nuns that runs the Oviedo Economic Kitchen.
