“New Decree Raises Questions About Travel for Unregistered 17-Year-Olds During Martial Law”

According to the latest decree, military registration for conscripts begins at the age of 16. This means that unregistered 17-year-olds may not be allowed to travel.

17-year-olds may face barriers to traveling abroad during martial law. About it told lawyers from the law firm “Vertical”.

Can 17 year olds travel abroad?

Lawyers explain that the new decree establishing the age for military registration may be the basis for border guards not to let young people out of the country.

According to this decree, young people must be registered with the military from the age of 16, and if a 17-year-old boy is not registered, he may be denied travel abroad. However, if a teenager is 17 years old and is registered with the military, he has the right to leave.

“Border guards, using this rule of law, may not release a 17-year-old guy who is not registered. That is, if a guy is 17 years old and he is registered, he has the right to leave,” the message says.

The new order of military registration

The new military registration procedure for conscripts, those liable for military service and reservists was adopted in December 2022. In accordance with this procedure, young people must be registered with the military in the year they turn 17 years old. These changes have been introduced for the Territorial Recruiting and Social Assistance Centers (TCKSP) so that they can predict the number of potential and mobilized recruits. However, it is important to note that mobilization and conscription are allowed only from the age of 18.

Recall that earlier Focus found out whether TCC employees could detain people on the street, put them on buses and take them to the military registration and enlistment offices. Lawyer Rostislav Kravets advises in such cases to contact the police.

In addition, it is worth recalling that the lawyer shared recommendations on what to do when receiving a summons from the military registration and enlistment office, despite the presence of a delay from mobilization. In this situation, the lawyer advises to avoid disputes with the employees of the TCC, get a summons and then contact the military registration and enlistment office to resolve the issue.
