New dangerous substance: – Life threatening accidents

Oslo University Hospital writes in a Press release that a new synthetic opioid is in circulation in Norway.

– The National Treatment Service for CBRNE medicine reports that a synthetic opioid called protonitazen has been detected in Norway. It has not been demonstrated before in Norway, they write in the press release.

They write that there are “life-threatening accidents” in which the substance was involved.

– Protonitazen is a synthetic opioid that is not in clinical use, but is sold illegally. It is very potent, which means that a small dose can cause life-threatening effects such as respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest, writes OUS.

The substance can be taken in many ways, including as a nasal spray. They write that it is not necessarily marked correctly.

– Users should not take drugs themselves, but be with someone, they write further.
