A new danger warning for a lot of lightning has now been sent out in parts of central Norway.
The danger warning applies from Wednesday afternoon to Wednesday evening, and it is especially the areas in southern parts of Trøndelag that will feel the thunderstorm.
Thus, it may be wise to take precautions before it breaks loose.

Numbers from Finance Norway shows that in 2022 lightning damage was reported for NOK 66 million. However, this is well below the peak year of 2014, where the amount ended at NOK 630 million (KPI-adjusted).
Earlier this week, Naf encouraged people to stop charging their electric cars while the weather is bad.
A direct lightning strike can destroy the charging equipment or the car’s electronic systems. Modern homes and electric car chargers are equipped with surge protectors, which provide some protection against such incidents.
– If your charging point is installed correctly, there must be surge protection. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to disconnect the car from the charger while the thunderstorm is on, says senior communications advisor Nil Sødahl in a press release.
Recommendations in case of lightning
Do not bathe when there is lightning. When lightning strikes water, a current of several thousand amperes is distributed in the water. You should also not bathe in a bathtub – a lightning strike can follow the water pipes in the house. The car is a safe place because the bodywork will act as a “shield” against lightning strikes. A house has partly the same effect; concrete buildings are better than wooden houses. Electrical devices can be damaged without lightning directly striking you, but strikes in the main power grid can create overvoltages and follow the power grid into your house. Therefore, electrical appliances can be advantageously disconnected, for example the TV. It is not dangerous to watch TV when there is lightning, but the electronics in the television are vulnerable. Choose a mobile phone that is disconnected from the charger, rather than a landline if you have to call. Surge in the event of a lightning strike can follow electrical wires to the end of the pipe. Do not seek shelter under large trees. There is a greater risk of lightning striking objects that stand out in the landscape. It is an advantage to be wet, the water will cause a lightning strike to follow the moisture outside you instead of entering the body, which will reduce the damage. Stay away from open plains – and put down the golf club. A metal golf club has a slightly greater risk of being struck by lightning. Do not use an umbrella. It has the same effect as the golf club. Avoid overvoltage damaging electrical equipment by installing surge protectors. Pull out the plugs from electrical equipment that you are afraid of. Also pull out the internet cable. Modems are very vulnerable to lightning strikes. Mountain tour – what do you do? Seek shelter if possible, move down to lower-lying areas. But it’s mostly about luck or bad luck whether you get hit or not. In a boat, what do you do? If you can get to land, you do. If you are out at sea, try to avoid sticking out. Do not hold onto the mast, avoid hanging over the line. Lie down in the boat, or go down into the cabin. Boats with masts can be exposed in thunderstorms, but it is not known whether a lightning rod at the top is a solution.
