Knowing that your legacy is in safe hands is important to many people. This is also the case with the Dachau couple Andreas Wiegand and Annette Eichhorn-Wiegand. For this reason you have set up a foundation for education and health, which has now also been officially recognized by the government of Upper Bavaria.
The couple are childless and would like to see their later inheritance put to good use, which is why they set up the “Eichhorn-Wiegand Foundation”, the purpose of which is varied. In addition to promoting education and the public health system, issues and projects in the area of assistance for the disabled and development cooperation are to be financially supported. This could be material support, but also financial training support or help with health problems in the national and international area, says Annette Eichhorn-Wiegand, who is also on the board of the Health Region Plus Dachau. She and her husband have not yet decided exactly what kind of projects they will be. “We basically hope to be able to help young people build a future for themselves,” she says.
Above all, the couple’s activities abroad, which included work in various development services in Africa, showed them how essential education is in order to be able to build a good life. The couple has therefore been supporting people in the field of education for years. With the establishment of the foundation, the whole thing would now be formalized and official, says pharmacist Andreas Wiegand.
According to his wife, another reason for daring to set up his own foundation is due to the fact that they can still actively help determine the direction of the joint project. In this way they want to make sure that after their death the foundation will continue to run in their favor. The main motivation, however, is to invest your assets as sensibly as possible, says Annette Eichhorn-Wiegand. In doing so, she emphasizes that they do not see themselves as good Samaritans, because she knows how bad it is for some people to have to accept help at all because they have no other choice.
With their joint foundation, the couple now hope to continue helping as many people as possible over the longest possible period.
