The investment is 760,000 euros, the costs are shared by the city of Linz and the state. The official procedure for the project has largely been completed, informed Transport Provincial Councilor Günther Steinkellner and City Councilor Michael Raml (both FP) yesterday. This autumn is targeted as the start of construction.
Cost: 760,000 euros
As current plans show, the pedestrian and cycle path is to start near the intersection of Wiener Straße / Traundorfer Straße, and it is to be guided largely along the former route of the Florianerbahn. The combined footpath and cycle path is to be 3.5 meters wide, on a section in front of the so-called bank curve and Pichlinger Straße it will be routed over an existing access road. This has to be spread over five meters. It should end at the intersection of Pichlinger Strasse and Schiltenbergstrasse.
This end point raises questions for the Linz Greens: As rumor has it, the path does not lead to the municipality border of St. Florian, which is a few kilometers away. Club chairman Helge Langer therefore speaks of a “sham” and fears a further gap in the already holey Linz cycle path network: “A fast cycle connection only works if you can cycle from A to B on it continuously and not even a bit again during the journey the road has to evade. ” As a result, the joy that the long-discussed connection is finally to be implemented is clouded, it is said.
Raml pointed out yesterday that the plans that have now been submitted, which have been agreed with the state, are the first construction stage of the project. The connection to St. Florian could follow in a second, but there is no time and cost plan for this yet. He speaks of a “very good solution” for cycling, which, according to Raml, the Greens shouldn’t always “look for a fly in the ointment”.
