New cruise ship leaves Meyer Werft

– New cruise ship leaves Meyer Werft

At the customer’s request, the shipyard has not released any information about the maneuvers, a company spokesperson said. The ship is scheduled to be transported across the Ems to the North Sea in September – the Lower Saxony Waterways and Shipping Administration (NWSV) has already announced the necessary closure of the Gandersum pumping station for the second half of September.

The Meyer Werft, known for its cruise ships, is currently fighting for survival. The shipyard must secure commitments for urgently needed loans by mid-September at the latest. A capital increase of 400 million euros is also necessary. Federal and state governments are currently examining whether and to what extent they can help the ailing shipyard. Due to the collapse of the global tourism market during the Corona pandemic, the shipyard with its more than 3,000 employees slipped into the red.

The “Disney Treasure”, the new cruise ship, will cross the Ems towards the North Sea in September. Despite financial difficulties, Meyer Werft, known for its luxury cruise ships, is actively seeking urgently needed loans and an increased equity ratio.
