He Boliang said that the British Scientific Committee has published detailed vaccine information, even some information that has not been published in medical journals. Although AstraZeneca did not separate the effects of different doses in terms of vaccine effectiveness, he believes that half-dose and full-dose are not substantially different; in general, AstraZeneca’s preventive effectiveness is about 70%.
He Boliang cited research and pointed out that the longer the interval between the first and second shots of the vaccine, the better the effect. He said that during the clinical study of the AstraZeneca vaccine, some vaccinators received the second dose 6 weeks or even half a year after the first dose. After analysis, it was found that the second injection 12 weeks apart had higher antibody levels than the second injection 6 weeks apart. He suggested that the Hong Kong government refer to the relevant data, and believes that when the public is vaccinated, each shot should not be less than three weeks apart.
Regarding the Liberal Party’s suggestion that the government provide incentives for citizens to vaccinate, He Boliang believes that this should not be the main strategy. He pointed out that vaccines are always medicines, so people must have the right to know and “have to choose” when choosing. Doctors should explain the pros and cons of various vaccines to citizens, and citizens can choose vaccines according to their physical conditions.
