Installed in 1984, the wooden crosses had had their day. The municipality therefore asked the National Office for Veterans and War Victims (ONACVG) to provide support to replace them.
The new crosses have been offered
The latter responded well to the city’s request by offering it the fifty concrete Latin crosses with a total value of 3,067 euros. A first part is already installed. The second will be by May 7, before the commemorative ceremony on May 8.
“They say that concrete is eternal, so I hope that with these crosses the memory will be too. “
Frédéric Laporte (Mayor of Montluçon)

The name plates present on the old crosses will resume their place on the new ones. A Latin cross will have its two arms cut off to represent an “Israelite cross” and honor the soldier of Jewish origin buried here.
For his part, Bernard Deligny, president of the agreement committee of associations of war victims and patriotic veterans of Montluçon was pleased to see the military square find a new youth.
Now it will look like a real military cemetery. It also shows that we are still taking care of the dead for France. These places allow you to remember what happened before. Fifty Montluçonnais are buried there and for some, their families continue to come.
