New COVID IDs or fraud? Competent individuals provide a clear response to the bombardment of unusual emails experienced by Slovaks.

After the introduction of vaccinations against COVID-19, it was said that vaccination certificates have only a limited validity. This made many people angry. Many vaccinated could be vaccinated with the first, second or third dose, but they said that it ends there. They pointed out that the competent people promised them something else.

However, in the last few days, Slovaks have actually started receiving interesting emails. They say that the National Center for Health Information sends vaccinated Slovaks a COVID card. Therefore, many thought it was a scam and ignored the emails. But did they do well? Several readers alerted us to the emails. They didn’t know what it was and thought it was a mistake. The NCZI communicated some time ago that the validity of Digital COVID IDs of the European Union (EU) with a booster dose is unlimited. Also for that reason, the institution reissues them automatically. The reason is that, according to the regulation of the European Parliament and the Council, the digital COVID certificate is valid for nine months after the basic vaccination scheme. “Those who have also received a booster vaccination, the third or fourth dose, have an unlimited validity of the digital COVID certificate. For persons under 18 years of age, the validity of the certificate is unlimited even after completing the basic vaccination scheme,” explained NCZI spokeswoman Veronika Daničová.
But what does it mean for Slovaks? COVID-passes will be automatically generated every 270 days, always 14 days before their technical validity expires. “For NCZI, this currently means regenerating over 1.7 million issued certificates,” commented Daničová.

According to the spokeswoman, the automatic sending of new certificates can be set up via the registered applicant’s self-service portal. You need to enter your Covid pass, year of birth and phone number, or email address. More than 70 countries currently issue a digital COVID ID card. Due to epidemiological vigilance, the system will remain in place until at least the end of June 2023. NCZI currently does not register any restrictions in connection with the spread of the disease within the EU. Before traveling to third countries, he recommends checking the situation on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or directly in the destination country.
