The “Technician for Automation and Industrial Robotics” course is being introduced at the Italian-speaking “Galileo Galilei” high school center in Bolzano.

We encounter robotics in many areas of life: the South Tyrolean school world is reacting to this and will in future be offering a four-year vocational course. The “Industry and Crafts for Made in Italy – Technicians for Automation and Industrial Robotics” course is being introduced at the Italian-speaking “Galileo Galilei” high school center in Bolzano.

This has now been presented in the new building of the Faculty of Engineering at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano in the NOI Techpark.

This provides concrete answers to the requirements of the world of work, emphasized State Councilor and Deputy State Governor Marco Galateo: “It is an innovative project that responds to the increasingly progressive requirements of the world of work.” The students also have the opportunity to complete their training to individually design the choice of an elective module.

“It is possible to choose between robotics and artificial intelligence, prototyping and 3D printing, as well as ecological and sustainable change,” explains the director of the Galilei School Center, Paola Burzacca.

The new offer relies on innovative teaching methods and close collaboration with local companies, in particular with the industrial automation company Omron and the Acciaierie Valbruna steelworks. Five workshops are dedicated to different aspects of the production phases and enable students to learn as practically as possible.

The collaboration with the local economy makes it possible to offer project work, business simulations and company internships in the first year. “Practical relevance is one of the main focuses of the course,” said head of school Vincenzo Gullotta, adding “orientation teachers and tutors will guide and support the students.”

The development of the course came about thanks to the collaboration with partner companies and the support of NOI Techpark, represented by director Ulrich Stofner, and the Faculty of Engineering of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, represented by Dean Andrea Gasparella. Both emphasized their joy at the implementation and the importance of this collaboration, which represents the first step in a fruitful partnership.
