An increase in coronavirus cases has been recorded in Reykjavik since Monday. Of the 59 new cases, 58 were in the Reykjavik region.

At least a quarter of new infections are related to bars and nightclubs in the center of the capital, and the rest to two universities in the city.

The increase in the number of cases was also observed at the end of July, but it was stopped by restrictions, which were relaxed in the beginning of September.

In Iceland, with a population of 365,000, 2,230 cases of the new coronavirus have been reported since the start of the pandemic, and ten people have died from Covid-19.

The previous day, 21 new cases were registered, the highest rate in more than five months.
