New corona vaccine on the way: Here’s what you need to know

Vaccinations against COVID-19 will take place in September and October, said the association of general practitioners Domus Medica.

“This means that, just like last year, there is a short overlap with the recommended flu vaccination period (October-November).

The autumn vaccination is aimed at people aged 65 or over, people who live in a healthcare facility for a long time, people with immune disorders or living with one, people who work in a department healthcare, people with obesity (BMI ≥ 40) and people with underlying health problems such as lung, heart, liver or kidney disease, illnesses such as type 1 and 2 diabetes and neuromuscular disorders.

Pregnant women

“There will be no general recommendation for vaccination against COVID-19 this year for pregnant women. Vaccination may be appropriate for some pregnant women at increased risk.”

What vaccine is used?

The vaccine to be used in Flanders is the Comirnaty JN.1 vaccine from Pfizer/BioNTech. This has been recommended by the European Medicines Agency.
