The new, adapted corona vaccine has been available since the beginning of the week. However, demand in Hamburg’s general practitioners’ practices varies greatly.
A GP practice in Ottensen says that patients are already waiting for their booster vaccination. And a practice in Alsterdorf is already planning the first corona vaccinations for next week – also for the staff. But there are also GPs who want to take their time. A practice in Poppenbüttel, for example, wants to offer one vaccination appointment per week from October.
Stronger demand probably only in the cooler season
The Hamburg Association of General Practitioners also expects that demand from patients for the adapted vaccine will only increase once the cold season begins. Many people would combine the annual flu vaccination with corona protection. And this has apparently not changed much despite the relatively high number of corona cases this summer.
New vaccine from Biontech
The new Biontech vaccine is tailored to the coronavirus variant JN.1. Although the virus has evolved since then, the adapted vaccination should provide sufficient protection against the current variants.
