New corona rules from today | Nachrichten.at

Increased minimum distance and FFP2 mask requirement: In short, these are the more stringent innovations that will apply in Austria from today. Failure to comply can result in fines of 50 or 25 euros. As reported, the lockdown is expected to be extended to at least February 7th due to the still high number of infections and the spread of the British virus mutation. An overview of what is allowed and what is not:

  • 2 meter distance: The baby elephant has had its day as a symbol for the legal minimum distance: From now on, a distance of at least two meters from people who do not live in the same household must be maintained in all public places – when queuing at the supermarket checkout as well as on public transport.
  • FFP2 Masks: The usual mouth and nose protection (MNS) is being replaced by the more effective FFP2 mask. As of today, it must be worn in shops and markets, in public transport, taxis and car pools, in administrative buildings and when collecting food and beverages in restaurants.
