The ban on the sale of alcohol for consumption outside will take effect from Saturday. The State Chancellery in Hanover announced on Friday evening.
The new restriction is part of the newly published new corona regulation. The sale of alcoholic beverages such as mulled wine or punch for direct consumption in glasses or disposable cups is prohibited, also for the catering trade, retail trade and all private areas. “The background to this is that the administration of alcohol that invites immediate consumption, above all, brings with it the significantly increased risk of large gatherings,” said the State Chancellery.
Ten people only with families at Christmas
As Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) announced in the state parliament on Thursday, the regulation also includes the restriction of contacts to a maximum of five people on New Year’s Eve. These can only consist of two households, children under the age of 14 do not count. This corresponds to the currently applicable restrictions, the validity of which has now been extended to January 10th. Private meetings with ten relatives, including permanent partners, are only allowed on Christmas Eve and Christmas days, i.e. December 24th to 26th. Children under the age of 14 do not count in this case either, and the number of households is not limited to two on these days in the family constellation.
