Gargash: We need new cooperation formulas in the Arab world
Dr. Anwar Gargash, the diplomatic advisor to the President of the UAE, stressed the importance of restoring the formula of Arab cooperation away from the old ideological formulas, pointing out that Syria’s return to the League of Arab States is a right decision, but he added that Damascus must facilitate the Arab decision.
Dr. Gargash added during his speech at the Arab Media Forum: “We still have some concerns about files that have not yet been resolved in Syria, including the Captagon file and the file of refugees who need to return to their country, but have not yet found any guarantees.”
Saudi Arabia and Egypt
Gargash stated that his country depends on two main Arab partners, namely Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and said: “We do not see that we in the UAE will carry out Arab action without the presence of Saudi Arabia or Egypt,” pointing out that his country is not moving on any issue on its own. “You need to work with partners, and this conviction is very important, and it is certain that Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the pillars of the Arab tent.”
Dr. Gargash touched on the issue of American security guarantees, and said: “American security guarantees to the countries of the region are verbal, and we look forward to them being transformed into texts to guarantee the security of the region and the interests of its countries.”
He stressed that the UAE’s foreign policy consists of three headings, pointing out that the first heading is that the country’s foreign policy is concerned with stability for the Emirates and the region, while the second heading is that the country is located in a geoeconomic region, not a geopolitical one, and therefore it focuses on prosperity, and finally the focus on… The concept of values in foreign policy, citing the movement to enhance the status of women in the country.
He said: “The UAE is not a great country or huge in size, but it has the ability to move and take initiatives,” explaining that his country needs to search for partnerships.

Half a trillion dollars
He stated that the UAE has broken the barrier of half a trillion dollars in gross domestic product, which is a huge achievement for a country with a population of 10 million people.
He pointed out in the session, which was held entitled “The Arab Region: The Scenario and the Future” within the activities of the Arab Media Forum, that “the UAE played a major role in crystallizing the idea of the economic corridor between India, the Middle East and Europe,” stressing that “the UAE has ambitions for other corridors that reach Turkey.” It crosses Iran and another connects to Africa.” He said: “The UAE believes that it will not be able to develop its economy except by empowering different contexts through a future approach relying on energy, technology, water, and artificial intelligence.”
Disparities in Arab countries
Regarding the existence of disparities between the countries of the Arab world; The Arab world is divided into two parts: The first is progressing rapidly in development, while the second is suffering. The diplomatic advisor to the President of the Emirates said that “the Arab world has two economies moving at two different speeds,” pointing out that applying the successful experience of the Gulf states requires, in his estimation, political stability, respect for the free economy, and openness. Social, in addition to the fact that the UAE’s experience also succeeded in having a judicial system, especially with the presence of 200 nationalities in the country.
Regarding the relations between his country and Iran, he said: “Iranian foreign policy has not changed, but the focus is on the common matters that bind us.” He pointed out that the recent attack by the Houthi camp, after Saudi Arabia has come a long way in the rounds of reconciliation with Iran, shows that there are parties that are not committed to it. You want the long war in Yemen to end.
