PrahaIN.cz has already covered the so-called tourist shops in the center of Prague several times. We continue to monitor the situation regularly.
For example, the convenience store, which was by far the most expensive of all in Prague, selling two-liter Caprio juice for 170 crowns or Vittel water for 120, closed in March. The owner of the building terminated the contract due to his future business, as the operator told us (we reported on PrahaIN.cz).
As we saw with our own eyes, the interior has been being renovated for several months. What will happen next here is the question.
However, it cannot be said that the number of convenience stores in the center of Prague is decreasing. On the contrary. About a month ago, we registered that the reconstruction of a non-residential space in the upper part of Wenceslas Square was being completed, in which, according to our information, a new convenience store was to be built.
This has been confirmed, it already works today.
We wrote
When we last mapped the situation of convenience stores in the center of Prague, we saw too much. In addition to high prices, also special pricing for the Czech Republic…
Something unusual
It is fundamentally different from the others that we are used to from the heart of Prague, it is very modern. The reconstruction is really noticeable and we ourselves have to admit that we haven’t seen such a shiny store for a long time.
Another thing is unusual. Part of the store is a counter with the so-called Bubble Tea drink. It is a drink that originates from Taiwan, from which it made its way to the United States in the 1990s. According to our estimate, its boom occurred ten years ago.
Later, Bubble Tea reached almost all major shopping malls and became popular among the youth. But the largest distributor of this drink in the Czech Republic got into trouble after presenting false information about what each drink contained. Journalist Jan Tuna drew attention to everything in the program Enough!.

But we were mainly interested in the prices of food in the new convenience store called Link 86.
We walked and took pictures among the shiny shelves in a room pleasantly cooled by air conditioning.
Tourist prices… Except for beer
The amounts for food did not surprise us. Nothing that we are not used to from the center of Prague. Although it is true that in some cases you can buy a little more expensive.
A liter of Pfanner juices here costs 90 crowns, while those from the Relax brand are a tenth cheaper. On the other hand, the two-liter Caprio, which is popular among young people in combination with alcohol due to its size and low price (it cost 170 in a convenience store on Műstek), here “only” cost 70.
Redbull energy drink in standard size 120. A little bigger even for 150. Unflavored water Magnesia 50 crowns, flavored water Dobrá Voda the same.
We could go on for a long time. As we have already mentioned, the prices are high, but in similar places they are easily even higher.
But what caught our attention were the relatively favorable beer prices. About the only ones we can say that they are purely non-tourist.
Kozel 10, 11 and black in a bottle costs 30 kroner here. The same Gambrinus tens and twelves. It is exactly the same with Staropramen from Smíchov.
Radegast 12 is for 40, Budvary for thirty-five.
The most famous Czech beer Pilsnier Urquel in a bottle is 50.
