We take stock of the new coronavirus figures communicated this Thursday, February 17, 2022 for Belgium this Thursday morning.
Apart from deaths, most indicators linked to the Covid-19 pandemic in Belgium continue to decline, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated this Thursday morning.
The institute has 3,352 people hospitalized in Belgium (-18% compared to the previous week), including 353 in intensive care (-18%).
Between February 10 and 16, there was an average of 252.6 daily admissions in hospital due to Covid-19, down 20% from the previous seven-day benchmark.
This average was 260.3 yesterday, 259.3 the day before yesterday, 294.7 Saturday, 297.7 Friday, 316 last Thursday, and 330 on Wednesday January 26 when the peak of the 4th wave (322 in early December) had been outmoded.
Between February 7 and 13, 14,492 new infections to Sars-CoV-2 were screened on average per day, down 45% from the previous week.
The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 2,490 over 14 days.
The infection figure was 14,882 yesterday, 15,635 the day before yesterday, 20,713 Saturday, 23,239 Friday, and 26,454 last Thursday.
New daily infections had climbed to 52,294 in the Saturday January 29 report before starting to decline.
Over the same period, nearly 45 people were deceased per day on average while they were carrying the virus (+5%), bringing the death toll to nearly 29,800 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
Some 53,600 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of nearly 30%.
the reproduction rate of the virus stands at 0.86. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down.
The Omicron variant represents nearly 85.8% of cases in Belgium.
