Condoms remain the most widely used and affordable method of preventing HIV and sexually transmitted diseases worldwide. Many countries, especially in Africa, are struggling with condom shortages. Sam ama Max is a new premium condom brand and would like to help solve this problem. In the Netherlands they collaborate with Aidsfonds for this. Together, Aidsfonds and Sam ama Max make sure more condoms are made available where they are needed. Due to the increase in condom use since 1990, it is estimated that 117 million new HIV infections have been prevented worldwide. Sam loves that Max would like to contribute to this positive development.
Insufficient availability and promotion
Due to the corona pandemic, the demand for condoms fell by 40% in the first year of the pandemic. As a result, governments have suspended or curtailed condom distribution programs in many African countries. In Mozambique, for example, 11 million fewer condoms were distributed in 2020 than in the previous year. Demand resumed growth in 2021, but funding did not materialize. Insufficient condom availability and promotion in sub-Saharan Africa is hindering further reductions in the number of new HIV infections.

The first project to receive the new Sam ama Max condoms is from the Anan Clinica foundation, partner of Aidsfonds. In Nanatha, Mozambique, the foundation helps the local community through various initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and disease. They provide information on various health-related topics, including safe sex and HIV prevention. Sam loves that Max condoms are made available to make safe sex really possible.
