The Gender Secretary of the Mayor’s Office of the central region of Cochabamba, Tatiana Herreradenounced this Friday the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales (2006-2019) for five other cases of human trafficking and rape, allegedly occurring in the last five years in the province of Chaparepolitical and union bastion of the former president.

“Five families in Chapare who this week had to arrive in the city of Cochabamba to present their complaints for acts of rape and human trafficking, and abuses, have not been able to arrive due to the blockades”Herrera said in a press conference in Peacewhere he arrived to coordinate actions with the President’s Government Luis Arce.

According to Herrera’s complaint, the daughters of these families who were minors in those years were taken from the Tropics of Cochabamba to the city of La Paz through “intermediaries who are the ones who manage the unions in Chapare.”

“In most cases, the daughters left without the consent of their parents,” said the Gender Secretary.

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating Morales since September 26 in a first case, after receiving an intelligence report in which it is stated that he had committed the crimes of human trafficking and statutory rape with a minor with whom he allegedly had an affair. daughter in 2015, when he was still president.

This investigation is being carried out in the southern region of Tarija and the prosecutor in charge, Sandra Gutierrezsaid on Wednesday that he already has “material evidence” against Morales, although the announcement he made to issue an arrest warrant has not yet been executed.

In addition to that case, there are two others that Herrera denounced in October against the former president for the crime of rape, in which two minors would be the victims in events that occurred between 2014 and 2016.

The Cochabamba Gender Secretary reported today that the mother of one of the alleged victims contacted her to tell her that her daughter had a child by Morales after the rape.

“She is terrified because she thinks that because of this fact, Mr. Morales will order her to be harmed,” Herrera said.

The Government announced days ago that it will provide protection to both victims and their families, through the Police, so that both cases can be investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The report of the new five cases of trafficking and rape against Morales arises while a police and military operation is being carried out in Cochabamba to clear the roads that those close to the former president, known as ‘evistas’, keep blocked in the center of the country.

The road blockade is now 19 days old and there are already clashes between police and ‘evistas’ in the Parotani area, in Cochabamba, on the route that connects with the west of the country.

On Wednesday, President Arce gave an ultimatum to Morales and his loyalists to clear the passage in the central region of the country.

In an open letter, Morales told Arce today that “no one would have imagined that the last months of his administration would be so dark and regrettable,” and compared him to the former interim president. Jeanine Anez (2019-2020) for the use of violence against him, and which he accuses of having carried out a “coup d’état” in 2019.

Morales has been entrenched in the Tropics of Cochabamba in the province of Chapare for 19 days, facing the possibility that an arrest warrant will be issued against him for the processes of human trafficking and statutory rape.

The crisis in the country occurs in the midst of a struggle between Arce and Morales for control of the ruling Movement towards Socialism (MAS) and the Bolivian Executive. EFE (I)
