It is estimated that approximately 650,000 people in the Netherlands experience limitations in their daily lives as a result of brain injury. For a large number of them, these limitations also relate to vision. It is estimated that one in five, and possibly even one in two, people with brain injuries also have visual impairments. However, a large part of this is not recognized as such, so that people do not always receive the care they need.
Basalt stands for excellent rehabilitation medicine. Basalt is for children, young people and adults who have to deal with the consequences of an accident, an illness or a condition. Neurorehabilitation is an important specialty for Basalt. With its expertise in neurovisual rehabilitation, Visio can make a difference together with Basalt.
Better quality of care, education and research
Royal Visio, expertise center for visually impaired and blind people, and Basalt, expertise center for rehabilitation medicine, sign a collaboration agreement for services to people who are (more) difficult to investigate in the field of visual disorders. With this agreement, the organizations strive for better quality care, education and research for patients with a visual impairment and (multiple) physical disabilities.
Annelies Versteegden, member of the Executive Board of Visio: “The first advantage lies in the collaboration in the treatment process. But the great thing is that we will also find each other on innovation and product development for people with a neurovisual disorder.”
