MEXICO CITY, January 17, 2021.- On Monday afternoon, a new cold front associated with a cold core vortex in the upper atmosphere will give rise to the Sixth Winter Storm of the Season over northwestern Mexico, reported the National Water Commission (Conagua).
This will cause a marked drop in temperature, strong winds and an increase in the potential for rainfall over that region, and as of early Tuesday, conditions for snow or sleet fall in the mountainous areas of Baja California.
The agency pointed out that during the night of this Sunday and early Monday, a low pressure channel over the western Gulf of Mexico, in interaction with the entry of moisture from said gulf, will cause heavy rains in Puebla and Veracruz, fogs in high areas and north wind with gusts of 60 to 70 km / h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec.
The subtropical jet stream generates moisture drag to the west, center and south of the country, causing showers accompanied by electric shocks and hail falls in Michoacán, Hidalgo, Morelos, Guerrero and Oaxaca, as well as in the Valley of Mexico.
For this Monday, the low pressure channel over the southeast of the country and the entry of humidity from the Gulf of Mexico will generate rains and showers accompanied by electric shocks in Puebla, Veracruz and Chiapas.
The subtropical jet stream will continue to generate moisture and rainfall with electric shocks and possible hail fall in the west, center and south of the country, including the Valley of Mexico.
