The cycling boom is unbroken. This was demonstrated once again during the Stadtradeln campaign, which was held in Main-Spessart for the seventh time this year. The following information is taken from a press release from the district office.
With 1121 active cyclists and a record total number of kilometers of 263,931 kilometers, all results from previous years could be surpassed. For example, last year “only” 841 cyclists and 212,559 kilometers were counted. The kilometers cycled this year correspond to an avoidance of around 41 tons of CO₂ compared to the car.
From May 21st to June 10th, 64 teams started. The strongest team was the “Alpenverein MirSenPrima” with 91 cyclists and 26,467 kilometers driven, followed by the “Bosch Rexroth” team with also 91 members and 23,225 kilometers. The “Triathlon & Friends TSV Karlstadt” team has achieved the third-highest number of kilometers. Six school teams from the district also took part. The team from the Franz-Ludwig-von-Erthal-Gymnasium in Lohr covered the most total kilometers with 207 active cyclists. The students covered 16,728 kilometers.
In order to do something for climate protection beyond cycling, donations will again be made for a climate protection project this year. The winning team can choose their favorite from four suggestions. Vouchers will again be raffled among all cyclists who have broken the 100-kilometer mark. The winners will be notified in writing within the next few days. The prizes are made possible thanks to the support of Raiffeisenbank Main-Spessart, Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg, the district of Main-Spessart and the bicycle shops “Cube Store” (Lohr), “Radhaus” (Gemünden), “Riedmann” (Karbach) and “Rosenberger Fahrrade”. ” (Carlstadt).
How the district of Main-Spessart performed in comparison to other municipalities will only be known once the entire campaign has been completed at the end of September.
