Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese President Xi Jinping’s government has imposed new rules for developers who want to launch new applications on Chinese manufacturers’ cellphones such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo et al. Through this regulation issued last month, Beijing wants to filter applications that are circulating and can be downloaded by Chinese citizens.
“The Android application store has confirmed that new applications must include documents for the government to see. Existing applications must also include documents,” said CEO of application development firm AppInChina, Rich Bishop, quoted by Reuters on Saturday (9/9/2023).
This new policy will certainly have an impact on the application development industry in China. Efforts by development companies to release applications will become increasingly difficult and applications that have been released could also be blocked if they do not meet government standards.
This new rule asks app developers to submit several documents related to their business details to the government. Mobile application stores were given until the end of August to follow these new rules.
“This rule requires global applications that wish to operate in China to form a local entity or collaborate with a local partner,” Bishop said.
Last week, Android application stores operated by Tencent, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo notified developers about this new rule. If developers do not include the requested documents, their applications will be blocked from application stores.
