Ternate, InfoPublik – The discovery of new cases of people living with HIV/AIDS in the city of Ternate from January to October 2022 identified 108 cases, an increase from 70 cases the previous year. This increase in cases after the COVID-19 pandemic has been identified as a result of promiscuity or casual sex.
This was communicated by the Head of HIV/AIDS of the Health Authority of the Municipality of Ternate, Hamida, in his office on Tuesday (6/12/2022).
Hamida, the head of HIV/AIDS at the Health Office of the city of Ternate, said that 108 new cases of HIV/AIDS have been detected, thus in the city of Ternate, so far, the cumulative number of HIV patients /AIDS in the city of Ternate is 760 patients.
“This increase in cases is due to transmission through unsafe sex patterns, not from blood transfusions, because currently PMIs will have a blood transfusion before they are screened, so most HIV/AIDS cases are through the sex,” she said.
The phenomenon of HIV/AIDS cases, Hamida said, is like an iceberg that seems small, but for many reasons HIV/AIDS cases are not like cases of other diseases. If the case is HIV/AIDS, the identity of the patient must be protected, so the results shouldn’t be like other cases.
HIV/AIDS patients in the city of Ternate to this day continue to provide assistance and routine medical care for the sick. Furthermore, the community is expected not to isolate HIV/AIDS patients, so that they too can live in society. (MC Tidore/RRI/Eyv)
