The bird flu virus continues to ravage Seine-Maritime. On November 22, 2022, several geese corpses were found in the municipality of Turretot. After a period of laboratory analysis, it is confirmed: the birds would have succumbed to this highly pathogenic agent.
In a press release, the prefecture of Seine-Maritime announces that other cases have been detected in Octeville-sur-Mer, also in the department. An interim control zone will be established, within a perimeter of 20 km around these two municipalities, “in order to limit the spread of the virus and prevent the appearance of outbreaks on farms”.
Limit contamination as much as possible
Several measures will have to be respected, such as the housing of farmed and backyard poultry and the cleaning and disinfection of clothing and equipment. The movement of people must be limited to what is strictly necessary within courtyards and farms, which will benefit from enhanced surveillance and regular checks and analyses. All of this “in order to protect poultry farms from potential contamination by wildlife and strengthen biosecurity measures”.
In all, 101 municipalities are affected by these measures. The list of these municipalities can be viewed here.
