New car sales have never been higher in June

After a sharp decline at the start of the corona pandemic, new car sales in Norway have really come to the fore again.

A lot is about new electric car models that have rolled into the country and out to customers. It is an important contributor to the fact that as many as 20,392 new passenger cars were registered in this country in June.

This is an increase of 78.2 per cent compared to June last year. And this is also the highest number of registered passenger cars in June ever.

As I said, electric cars are important here: They account for as much as 64.7 per cent of new car sales. Also that record. So far this year, electric car sales will increase by 68.6 percent, compared to 2020.

Put down the price

The big winner in June was the Tesla Model 3. Despite the fact that the car no longer has the interest of the news, Tesla’s youngest sells impressively well. A significant price cut earlier this year also plays a role here.

In April, the importer reduced the price for the most affordable model, from 399,900 to 349,900 kroner. This applies to the car called Model 3 Standard Range Plus. This will also make up a large part of the Model 3 sales in June.

Tesla Model 3 is Norway’s best-selling car in the first half of the year. It is not bad for a car that has gradually gained a lot of competitors.

Many people buy rechargeable

A total of 3,196 new Model 3s were registered in June. This is an extremely high monthly figure, it also helps to secure the Model 3 position as Norway’s best-selling car in the first half of 2021. A very strong achievement.

The electric car Ford Mustang Mach-E was Norway’s best-selling in May. In June, it has to settle for second place, with 1,289 cars. It’s about electric cars and SUVs in the space below as well, where we find the new Skoda Enyaq with 1,115 newly registered cars.

After the electric cars, it is now the rechargeable hybrids that sell best in Norway. In June, 4,139 Norwegians became the new owner of a rechargeable hybrid. For hybrids that can not be charged, the number is 1,400, together these two have a market share of 27.2 percent.

Finally – this is how a rechargeable hybrid should be

Toyota RAV4 leads among the rechargeable hybrids in Norway, this is also the second best-selling car in this country after the first six months of the year.

High proportion with 4×4

Then there will naturally not be much left for the cars that have petrol or diesel engines. Here, sales have fallen significantly in recent years. In June, 896 new cars with diesel engines came out on Norwegian roads. This gives a market share of only 4.4 percent. For comparison: In June last year, diesel cars had a market share of 12.2 percent. So here it goes downhill fast.

773 cars had a petrol engine in June, which gives a market share of 3.8 percent. Here, too, we are talking a significant decline from last year.

The proportion of cars with four-wheel drive is also significant in Norway. In June, it crawls just over 50 percent, more specifically 50.3. This is significantly higher than in most countries we can compare ourselves with.
