Genesis Motors was established as a separate brand in 2015 and is a subsidiary of Korean Hyundai, in the same way that Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota. The company launched its first model in the G90 sedan in 2017, and recently pulled the launch pad of the all-electric GV60.
The brand has not been available on Norwegian soil, but with electric models in the portfolio, the company has turned its attention to electric car-hungry Norwegians.
Earlier this year, Genesis was launched on the European market and is present in the UK, Switzerland and Germany. The plans are ready for a launch in Norway, but an exact time has not been set yet.
– Yes, Genesis is coming to Norway – although we do not know much yet, says the director of the Norwegian Hyundai importer, Thomas Rosvold, to Bilbransje24, which first mentioned the case.
Rosvold adds that Genesis wants to do a proper job in the largest markets before the snout is turned towards Norway and other potential markets.
Jon Walsh, who is part of the communication department at Genesis Europe, says that Norway is an exciting market and one of the countries that is moving fastest towards electrification.
Model selection
Genesis currently has a model range consisting of three sedans, two large SUVs and the newcomer GV60, which is a medium-sized all-electric SUV. In addition to the GV60, you also get the G80 sedan with electric driveline.
The GV60 crossover was launched this week and shares the platform and technology with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The model will be sold exclusively in the electric version, and Walsh confirms that a third electric model will be available in the spring.
Genesis has not come up with many technical specifications, but it is natural to think that it will be closer to Ioniq 5 in terms of battery and range considering that they share a platform.
