Ronald Koeman may lose his job soon. Journalists of “ESPN” report about a potential successor of the Dutch coach.
Money stands in the way of ending cooperation with Koeman. The club would have to pay the coach for breaking the contract prematurely.
However, the authorities are already working on the list of candidates who could take over from the Dutch. Jordi Cruyff was considered, but Barcelona’s current sporting director declined when he was offered such an offer.
Moi Llorens, a Catalan journalist for ESPN, reports that Cruyff himself has suggested that Roberto Martinez be taken. The Spaniard has been the manager of the Belgian national team since 2016.
Together with the team of “Red Devils”, the 48-year-old won a bronze medal at the last world championship. During EURO, the Belgians reached the quarter-finals.
The Martinez contract is valid until the end of 2022. Barcelona, however, counts on the fact that it would be possible to sign a contract with him before next year’s World Cup. Supporters of such a movement are Mateu Alemany and Ramon Planes, members of Joan Laporta’s staff.
