The Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal has been given the green light to accelerate the construction of a new pavilion reserved for cancer treatment.
The pavilion opened on Sunday and the TVA Nouvelles team had first-hand access to this new pavilion, which cost around $ 40 million.
The new cancer unit consists of a new modular two-storey building with an area of 1600 square meters each.
“This is an addition of 36 beds for patients in hemato-oncology and cell therapy, which is really a point of service for the population of the East, but for the entire population of Quebec as well,” explains Jean. -François Fortin-Verreault, Deputy CEO of the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
All bedrooms are identical. They have optimized ventilation and represent a safe environment for the patient and his family.

“We are in analysis to see how we build the future hospital and what we reuse in the future hospital. Here, it is an environment that could be sustainable for 25-30 years without problems, ”adds Mr. Fortin-Verreault.
Construction of the unit began in April 2020 and took place in fast-track mode. COVID-19 certainly has something to do with it.
“We take people who were currently hospitalized in hematology-oncology and cell therapy in the hospital, we bring them here. The beds that are in the hospital, we will transform them into individual rooms to better protect people from COVID, ”says the Deputy CEO.
Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital was designated in 2019 as a university institute in hematology-oncology and cell therapy.
