New CAD Renders Reveal Design of Upcoming 12.9-Inch iPad Air with Redesigned Camera Unit

Apple enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts alike have been eagerly awaiting news about the design of Apple’s upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air model. Well, the wait is over as new CAD renders have been shared by 91Mobiles, giving us a glimpse into what we can expect from this highly anticipated device.

The renders show an overall appearance that is very similar to the design of the fourth- and fifth-generation iPad Air models. However, there is one striking difference that catches the eye – a redesigned rear camera unit. Unlike the single, round protruding cutout on the current iPad Air, the new design features a longer pill-shaped camera unit that protrudes from the rear. This design change is reminiscent of the rear camera unit found on the iPhone X and iPhone XS.

Moving to the front of the tablet, the iPad Air maintains a similar look to the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro. However, it does have noticeably thicker bezels, similar to how the 10.9-inch iPad Air has thicker borders around the display compared to the 11-inch iPad Pro. This design choice may be a compromise to accommodate the larger display while still maintaining a sleek and modern look.

The upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Air is expected to cater to those who desire a larger tablet than the current 10.9-inch iPad Air but do not require the high-end features of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, such as ProMotion or a LiDAR scanner. This strategy aligns with Apple’s approach with other products, such as the 13.6- and 15.3-inch MacBook Air models and the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus.

Rumors have also been circulating that the next-generation iPad Air will feature the highly anticipated M2 chip. This chip is expected to provide improved performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor, further enhancing the user experience.

According to 91Mobiles, production of the new iPad Air is rumored to begin in the first quarter of 2024, suggesting that it may already be underway. As for its release date, Apple is expected to launch the device “early” this year, possibly in March. This news has Apple fans eagerly marking their calendars and counting down the days until they can get their hands on this latest addition to the iPad lineup.

In other Apple news, the company recently confirmed that iOS 17.3 will be released next week. This software update is highly anticipated by iPhone and iPad users, who are eager to experience the latest features and improvements. Additionally, Apple has unveiled a new Black Unity Sport Band for the Apple Watch, showcasing their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

On a slightly somber note, Apple announced the permanent closure of two of its retail stores in the U.S. The Infinite Loop and Royal Hawaiian stores will be closing their doors for good. However, Apple has assured employees that they will have the opportunity to remain with the company, ensuring that their valued staff members are taken care of during this transition.

As we look ahead to the Lunar New Year on February 10, Apple has released limited-edition second-generation AirPods Pro with a Year of the Dragon engraving. These special AirPods Pro are available in select countries and feature a unique dragon engraving on the USB-C charging case, adding a touch of exclusivity to an already popular product.

Last but not least, Apple has started accepting pre-orders for their highly anticipated spatial computing device, the Apple Vision Pro. This groundbreaking device is now available for pre-order in the United States, offering users a new way to interact with technology and explore virtual worlds.

With all these exciting developments from Apple, it’s clear that the tech giant is continuing to push boundaries and innovate in the world of consumer electronics. Whether it’s a redesigned iPad Air, software updates, or new products, Apple fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates and be ready to experience the future of technology with Apple.
