We have already presented one or two Mogs as travel or motor homes. Motorbuch Verlag has now published a new book about the Unimog. It is specifically about the 425, 435, 424, 427, 437, 405 and 437.4 series, i.e. the series with the square driver’s cab. We took a look inside the new work.
The Unimog as a motorhome
Who doesn’t know it: the Unimog in winter service.
We know it in orange as a municipal vehicle, in red as a fire engine, in blue as a THW emergency vehicle and in matt olive or camouflage paint as a Bundeswehr truck. But the Unimog has now also arrived on the travel scene. At the globetrotters’ meeting on Unimog Museum In Gaggenau we were able to see this for ourselves, as the universal motor device was disproportionately represented there – we reported on it.
The Unimog is the first choice for travelers who want to travel to particularly impassable areas with their camper van. Off-road, the truck with the star is superior to everything else. One-meter-high steps? No problem for the Mog. The same goes for muddy or extremely rough tracks or water crossings. The Unimog can handle that. So if you need an all-wheel drive camper van that can go almost anywhere, you can use the Mog as a base.
Unimog motorhomes can also be found in the book, but only very few.
New book about the Unimog
Now the Motorbuchverlag has a new book about the Unimog publishedwhich deals with the series 405 to 437. A note in advance: If you are looking for a lot of motorhomes in it, you will probably be disappointed. They can be found, but only very sparsely. In return, there is a lot of information and pictures about the various series. Because that is what the book wants to convey.
Until the 1970s, the Mog was used primarily in agriculture.
This is especially true of the story surrounding the off-road truck, which has long since achieved cult status. Not from the beginning, however, but from the 1970s onwards. It was around this time that the Mog was replaced by tractors in this sector rather than being a vehicle used primarily in agriculture. With the 425 and the 435, recognizable by their angular hood, the company then expanded into other regions in 1973 and laid the foundation for a successful future in many other areas.
Overall, the Unimog book is divided into six chapters.
