New bomb threats in middle and high schools in Gironde – Rue89Bordeaux

This Friday, November 24, hundreds of Gironde students saw classes suspended. In question, new bomb threats received by educational establishments. According to the prefecture, 16 establishments are concerned: 6 in the gendarmerie zone (in Libourne, La Brède, Saint-André de Cubzac, La Réole, Blaye) and 10 in the police zone (in Bordeaux, Lormont, Talence, Arcachon).

These include the Gustave-Eiffel, Magendie and Tivoli high schools in Bordeaux, the Talence hotel high school, or the Grand Air and Condorcet high schools in Arcachon.

Middle and high schools in the departments of Landes, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are also impacted.

This is more than the day before, where, in Gironde, 13 middle and high schools were closed following the sending of the same threatening email. In total, 34 establishments in the region were affected. As such, an investigation was opened by the Bordeaux public prosecutor’s office for “conditional death threats and attempted extortion”.

Intervention of law enforcement

“As of yesterday evening, the police intervened and removed the doubts within the boarding schools after removing the students. Work continues today in schools,” the prefecture said this Friday morning.

Since the Arras attack on October 13, bomb threats have increased on French territory. During October, Mérignac airport thus had to be evacuated several times. Each time, following the intervention of demining services, no trace of explosive was found.

In September, two teenagers from the Bordeaux area had been arrested and indicted for 27 false bomb threats.
