DOKKUM – In the next two weeks you can meet the new BMW X1 of the police in Northeast Fryslân. Police officers from the base team in this area have tested the BMW for the emergency services.

The test model can be installed 24/7 from Dokkum for emergency services for a week from Wednesday and then for another week from Burgum. The car will then go to a base team in Drenthe.

BMW X1 Specifications

The BMW has a top speed of 208 km per hour and reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in 9.2 seconds.

New contract from 2025

The Dutch Police currently have an agreement with Mercedes. From January 2025 to December 2029 (extending to December 2032), this will be taken over by BMW and Ford. In addition to the BMW X1s, the police also drive Ford Kugas.

Two suppliers

The police deliberately chose several suppliers. “The police are deliberately contracting with two brands to be more flexible in the event of delivery problems,” says Michel de Roos, chairman of the steering group responsible for the new cars. to buy

The test

During the test period, three vehicles each from the two brands drive around the Netherlands. After this test period, an assessment will be carried out before the cars are delivered. The first expansion is expected in mid-2025 if the trial is successful. In total, the police plan to buy about 1,100 cars with a fossil driver.
