The new BMW 4 Series Coupé has now been officially unveiled. And we find that it looks much more striking than the previous model – and above all, it differs more clearly from the BMW 3 Series. So that the self-confident appearance can also meet the demands for driving dynamics, there are additional struts in the front and rear axles, an increased camber at the front and a paris axle load distribution to improve agility. In addition, the BMW 4 Series is 5.7 centimeters lower than the 3 Series and the center of gravity is 2.1 centimeters lower.
At the start of sales on October 24, there are five model variants to choose from: two four-cylinder petrol engines with 184 hp / 135 kW (420i, from CHF 54,700) and 258 hp / 190 kW (430i, from CHF 61,900). In addition, there is the all-wheel drive coupé with in-line six-cylinder turbo, mild hybridization and 388 hp / 285 kW (M440i xDrive, from CHF 79,600). The mildly hybridised coupe offers a few extra vitamins on request. The electric motor releases an additional 11 hp / 8 kW for around eight to eleven seconds. This extra boost is somewhat reminiscent of the legendary Brabham BT52 F1 world champion car, in which a BMW turbo engine could deliver up to 1400 hp on request.

Eight-speed automatic for everyone
The two-liter four-cylinder diesel is also electrified by mild hybrid. The diesel (420d, from CHF 56,700) has the well-known 190 PS / 140 kW and is also available in combination with 4×4 (420d xDrive, from CHF 59,700). Two more powerful MHEV inline six-cylinder diesels will follow in March of next year: the 430d xDrive with 286 PS / 210 kW and M440d xDrive with 340 PS / 250 kW. For the first time, all 4-series coupé models come with eight-speed Steptronic as standard, and the automatic sports version is available as an option. A new leather steering wheel, sports seats and optional knee pads on the center console provide support when cornering a little faster.

Autopilot forms emergency lane
The cockpit is traditionally geared towards the driver and takes over the current technology from the sister models. The virtual cockpit displays are therefore located on a 10.25-inch screen and the additional 12.3-inch touchscreen forms the heart of the infotainment operation. The latest generation of the head-up display has a projection area that is 70 percent larger and the displays can be adjusted by the driver as required. There is also something new in the autonomous driving functions: if necessary, the 4-series BMW Coupé is steered to the edge of the road by the autopilot on the freeway to form a rescue alley.
