New Black Hole Discovery in Milky Way Galaxy: Gaia BH3, Second Closest to Earth

Astronomers announce the discovery of a new black hole. caused by the collapse of a star and has the largest mass in the Milky Way galaxy It has a mass 33 times that of the Sun and is also the second closest black hole to Earth.

Astronomers have discovered a new black hole using the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Gaia space telescope at the same time as the constellation Eagle (Aquila).

After analyzing data from the star mapping project the new black hole, named Gaia BH3, has a mass 33 times greater than our sun and is about 2,000 light years from our solar system . a mass of about 9.6 times that of the Sun, the Gaia BH3 black hole is the second closest black hole to Earth.

A black hole is like that A stellar black hole is a type of black hole that is formed from the collapse of a massive star with a mass of 20 times the mass of the Sun or more. The remnants of the collapse are black holes. Even their mass is tiny compared to supermassive black holes that are millions of times larger than the sun.

Pasquale Panuzzo from CNRS, Observatoire de Paris The lead author of the discovery said that this discovery is also the first time that a black hole of such a massive origin has been found within the Milky Way. Until now, black holes of this type have only been seen in galaxies This discovery will give astronomers more information to understand how massive stars form and evolve.

Professor Carole Mundell, ESA’s Scientific Director, said that…

“This discovery goes far beyond the original purpose of the mission. This is to create a highly accurate, multi-dimensional map of over a billion stars across our Milky Way.”

The Eagle constellation is one of 88 constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. This constellation lies on the celestial equator. The brightest star in the constellation is the Eye of the Eagle (Altar), which is one of the segments of the “Summer Triangle”
