Chinese company BYD began construction of a plant in Brazil, with the launch scheduled for early 2025. It is no secret that the Brazilian market is closed to imported cars due to high duties. Until recently, an exception was made only for electric vehicles and hybrids, which Chinese manufacturers took advantage of: in the first quarter of 2024, the volume of imports increased by 46.4%, with almost 40% coming from electric vehicles from China! The Brazilian authorities have already responded by raising the duty for electric vehicles by 10% and for hybrids by 15%. And by July 2026 these values should reach 35%. It is clear that BYD intends to circumvent these obstacles.

Concern BMW and the Croatian company Rimac Technology signed a long-term cooperation agreement. Its main goal will be to create efficient high-voltage traction batteries for future electric vehicles from both automakers. BMW hopes in this way to gain access to high-voltage technologies from Rimac, which, in turn, intends to reduce costs by increasing production volumes at its Croatian factory (pictured). At the same time, BMW is preparing to introduce the sixth generation eDrive electric powertrains, which were developed independently.
