New big match by Kazakhstan’s goalkeeper – Great Britain surprised and scored against Denmark – Sport – svenska.yle.fi

Nikita Bojarkin has grown into a giant in Kazakhstan’s goal. Against the USA, he saved 49 shots, but this time it was not enough for any points. In Group A, Denmark had major problems with Great Britain and only won after extra time.

Kazakhstan has surprised during the start of the Ice Hockey World Cup. In the first match, they beat Latvia after penalties and then they also got Finland on falls after penalties.

Goalkeeper Nikita Bojarkin has been an important cog in the team and also in today’s meeting with the USA he played great.

Bojarkin conceded a goal after just under seven minutes, but his 25 saves in the first period kept Kazakhstan in the game. The United States’ 2-0 goal would still come. Early in the second period, Trevor Moore poked the puck.

Bojarkin then withstood the American shooting rain, and only a two-goal lead for the USA meant that the match was open for the final period. Jack Drury still extinguished Kazakhstan’s hopes for points as he made it 3-0 just under two minutes into the final period.

Kazakhstan then had a puck in goal which was rejected after a kick and the USA won 3-0. Nikita Bojarkin eventually made 49 saves while Cal Petersen in the US goal managed with 18 saves.

Denmark won only after extra time

In Group A, Denmark had problems against Great Britain. The team was already at a disadvantage after only two and a half minutes when Ben O´Connor broke the deadlock.

Denmark still got up and turned in the first period after goals from Julian Jakobsen and Nicklas Jensen. 2-1 stood until the end of the third period when Mike Hammond equalized and Great Britain forced an extension.

In the long run, Britain incurred expulsions and then Denmark decided. Markus Lauridsen scored the decisive goal on a pass from Nicklas Jensen.
