Orlando – The North American professional basketball league NBA is confident before the start of its season in Orlando despite the tense corona situation in the USA.

“Our protocols are currently working,” said Vice-Commissioner Mark Tatum at a conference with international media. “We are hopeful and optimistic that we can crown a champion if everyone adheres to the guidelines.”

The NBA continues its season from Thursday (local time) after a break of more than 20 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. All games will take place without spectators on the Disney World site in Orlando and the pros will also be largely shielded from the outside world. A total of 22 out of 30 teams are still there, the playoffs are to take place in mid-August.

Tatum left open what would happen if the season had to be interrupted again. He referred to a team of experts that is also staffed with scientists. If something happened, you have to look at the specific case to decide the consequences, Tatum said.
