‘New AZ’ impresses, but bows to beautiful goals PSV: ‘Lesson in effectiveness’

The evening started with a beautiful light show because of the renovated stadium. The home team’s red shirt had a special text to mark the moment. It should have been the match of the Alkmaar resurrection.

In the first topper of the season, against leader PSV, AZ wanted to show that it is still one of the champion candidates. Even without growth brilliance Myron Boadu, Calvin Stengs and Teun Koopmeiners.

Especially in the first half, the Alkmaarders PSV showed all corners of the field at times. But after ninety minutes it was really 0-3 on the scoreboard.

Chilly, hard numbers also thought trainer Pascal Jansen. “If you haven’t seen the match, you might think it was easy for PSV. But we did see it. I think we presented ourselves well as ‘new AZ’. But we also have a clear lesson in effectiveness today.”

“If you lose five strong players, other players must also be given time to grow to that level,” Jansen knows. “They get that time. On the other hand, it is a grown-up world, in which you have to perform. But the fact is that the team has to reform itself. And that takes time.”
