Orlando (dpa / tmn) – The amusement park metropolis Orlando in Florida is attracting visitors this year with some new attractions. A new themed area has been opened at Seaworld Orlando, which is dedicated to the characters from Sesame Street.

A Harry Potter roller coaster with vertical passages will go into operation on June 13 at the Universal Orlando Resort. According to Visit Orlando, it is the longest roller coaster in Florida.

On August 29, the new Star Wars themed area will also open its doors to guests in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park. The main attraction is the flight simulator “Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run”, a homage to the famous spaceship from the Star Wars films. The first edition of “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” opened at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, at the end of May.

Two more new openings are scheduled for 2020 on the International Drive entertainment street in Orlando. On the one hand, The Orlando Slingshot opens a kind of giant catapult that whirls visitors through the air. On the other hand, the world’s largest free-fall tower is planned: The Gyro Drop Tower will be around 120 meters high. At the so-called I-Drive there is already a huge Ferris wheel and a chain carousel at a lofty height.

Orlando recorded 75 million visitors last year, as Visit Orlando announced at the IPW travel fair in Anaheim (June 1-5). The vast majority (68.6 million) come from their own country. This makes Orlando the most visited travel destination in the United States.
