Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a strong message after recent statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a discussion in Davos on Wednesday with World Economic Forum President Borge Brende, the ANA-MPA news agency reported.
Asked about Erdogan’s reaction and relations with Turkey, Mitsotakis said:
“…we’re neighbors [с Турция], we must always talk and we always want to keep communication channels open. We will never be the ones not talking to our neighbors. On the other hand, if President Erdogan thinks that I will not defend the sovereignty and sovereign rights of Greece and will not explain to the international community that Turkey is behaving like a revisionist force, then he is wrong. “
Mitsotakis then recalled his meeting with Erdogan and the fact that a month later, an unprecedented number of Turkish military planes flew over Greek islands. Stressing that this behavior was “completely unacceptable”, Mitsotakis said he would “raise this issue whenever he can until Turkey changes its behavior”.
During the discussion, Mitsotakis also mentioned the events in the European Union after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying that the EU had shown its unity and stressed the speed with which the union decided to impose unprecedented sanctions against Russia.
